Our Patient Journey

What you should expect

Every patients journey with us is unique and your Capsule Endoscopy testing plan will be tailored to your specific needs.

However, there are common steps that all patients will go through. The information on this page just lets you know what to expect along your testing journey with Capmed Diagnostics.

1. Referral

If you are referred by a Consultant or GP following a private consultation they will electronically submit your details for consideration and you will receive an email with next steps. We'll book the next available pre-assessment appointment  and send you details of how to change this if you are unavailable.

If self-referring you will book complete a basic referral form, detailing symptoms you are currently experiencing, as part of the booking process.

Initial referral response time is 24-48 hours.

2. Booking and Payment

If referred from a Private Consultant or GP we will send you an email with all of the relevant information on how to register, pay for your test and book an appointment.

Self  Referred. You will be shown the next available pre-assessment appointments on the booking page. Pre-payment is required before an appointment can be booked. As part of the booking process registration will automatically take place.

Insured patients? Should get pre-authorisation from their provider that they are able to pay for and recover the testing costs. Once done follow the steps for self-referred patients

Next available appointment waiting time is no longer than 7-10 days.

3. Pre-Assessment

Your appointment will be either telephone or video.

Any video links will be sent prior to your appointment.

In this appointment you will meet the clinician who will deliver your procedure and talk through the reasons for the test as well as an outline of any potential risks.

If you require additional pre-testing this will be discussed with you during this appointment.

Approx. appointment length is 15-20 minutes.

4. Preparation

Prior to your procedure you will need to prepare. This could be via a reduced diet and/or taking bowel preparation medication.

Some patients will need to have a patency capsule pre-test to ensure that they are able to pass the capsule before being able to have the procedure.

Preparation medication is dispatched direct to you and should arrive 48 hours prior to your appointment.

5. The Test

Face-to-Face appointment where you will swallow the capsule. The clinician who administers the test will then configure the sensors and the reader before you leave the clinic.

Some patients may be advised to go for a walk near to the clinic or to lay down in a specific position to aid the transit of the capsule.

Appointment length is generally 20-30 minutes.

6. Notification and Collection

Once the capsule has passed through the body and you have seen it in the toilet you will need to notify us.

Following notification you would package up the reader and sensors.

We will arrange for courier collection from your specified address. No need to worry about a label the courier will provide this during the collection process.

Courier collection is arranged for the next working day following your procedure.

7. Reporting and Results

Readers generally arrive the next working day after collection. Upon arrival the reader is downloaded and the images processed to make a video for review.

The video is uploaded for the clinician to review and complete your report.

Reports are available within 14 days.
